Surya Namaskar

As Swami Vivekananda said,

Each soul is potentially divine. The goal is to manifest this divinity within, by controlling nature, external and internal. Do this either by work, or worship, or psychic control, or philosophy-by one, or more, or all of these-and be free.

Surya Namaskar is the best key to manifest the Divinity within. Surya Namaskar is one of the most important exercise that is performed when Yoga is practiced. The literal translation of the term Surya Namaskar is Sun Salutation.

Surya Namaskar is experienced on three levels. i.e., body, mind and intellect. It works with equal force on these 3 aspects. It gives us physical and mental health with sharp intellect.

There are set of well balanced 7 Yogasanas that will stretch all the Muscles, Ligaments,  induces all the Glands and strengthen the Nervous system in our body. It is the training to all the muscles, involved in voluntary and involuntary actions, to acquire elasticity and flexibility through Surya Namaskar. Flexibility of the muscles is the Key Power of all physical and mental abilities.

Adding the Surya Namsakar Mantras with this exercise will purify our mind and thus keeping the mind clean and healthy. This exercise activates all the chakkaraas (energy centers in human body) and increases the energy level, thereby one's inner strength and will power.

This exercise should be done everyday by everyone. Let us practice Surya Namaskar everyday and derive the immense benefits that are offered.

There are 10 steps in Surya Namaskar. To see the steps just observe below video.

How many Surya Namaskar to do?

13 Surya Namaskar is enough to run healthy life. If you can do more than 13, it will increase your stamina (Physical or moral strength to resist or withstand illness, fatigue, or hardship).  For an example, Samartha Ramadas (Guru of Chatrapathy Shivaji Maharaj) being a sanyaasi, he was doing 108 Surya Namaskar daily. That is why he was able to direct Great Shivaji in all the way.

For each Surya Namaskar one mantra to be spell out (in Surya Namaskar sthithi). All the 13 Surya Namaskar Mantras have been given below. The meaning of these mantras will be helpful to understand the characters of Sun.

Meaning of Surya Namaskar Mantras:

Aum Mithraaya Namaha
The Friend of All
Aum Ravaye Namaha Praised by All
Aum Sooryaaya Namaha The Guide of All
Aum Bhaanave Namaha  The Bestower of Beauty
Aum Khagaaya Namaha The One who moves quickly in the Sky
Aum Pooshne Namaha The Nourisher of All
Aum Hiranya Garbhaaya Namaha The Bright center of All Energy
